We’re delighted to share that Marham Park Community Champions has been awarded a £1,818 Grassroots Grant, made possible thanks to funds raised by players of Postcode Lottery.
For a small, entirely volunteer-led community group like ours, this funding makes a huge difference.
Over the past year, Marham Park Community Champions has grown considerably. From Reclaim the Woods and our Pop-Up Tea Room to litter picks, family activities and community events, our aim has remained constant: bring people together, create opportunities to get involved and help make Marham Park a place where people feel connected to their community.
But behind every event are the less exciting things that make it possible: insurance, storage, our website, printing and other everyday running costs.
Until now, many of those costs have been personally funded by our Chair, alongside the money we raise through donations and fundraising. As the group has grown, so have those costs.
The Grassroots Grant will help cover these essential running expenses over the coming year, giving us a much stronger and more sustainable foundation from which to continue our work.
Most importantly, it means more of the money we raise ourselves can go directly back into activities and opportunities for our community.
Supporting grassroots organisations
The Grassroots Grants programme is a partnership between Postcode Lottery and Groundwork and has supported 700 small, local organisations across England through unrestricted funding.
Unlike funding tied to one particular event or project, unrestricted funding gives small organisations greater flexibility to use money where it is most needed.
The programme is made possible thanks to funds raised by players of Postcode Lottery. Our grant has been awarded through Postcode Places Trust and is administered by Groundwork.
“We are delighted that players of the Postcode Lottery will support small community-based organisations through this funding opportunity, thanks to our partnership with Groundwork UK. I encourage smaller, local charities and groups to visit our trust websites for more details.”
Laura Chow, Head of Charities at Postcode Lottery
“The value of locally led action is second to none when it comes to making lasting positive change in the communities which need it most. Unrestricted funding for small organisations with expert local knowledge and lived experience is a key component to ensuring communities can take control of their own destinies, and we’re pleased to be working with the Community Programmes team at Postcode Lottery to provide this.”
Graham Duxbury, Groundwork’s UK Chief Executive
What comes next?
This funding gives us a fantastic foundation for the next twelve months.
We want to continue looking after our shared spaces, creating opportunities for people to volunteer and meet their neighbours, and developing more free and affordable activities for local families.
We’ve got plenty of ideas for 2027, and now we have a little more freedom to concentrate on making them happen.
Thank you to players of Postcode Lottery, Postcode Places Trust and Groundwork for supporting our community. And, as always, thank you to every resident, volunteer, donor and supporter who keeps showing up and helping us build this.
